Caroline Casey to Join Coffee House Press as Marketing and Sales Director

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (May 31, 2012) — Coffee House Press is pleased to announce that Caroline Casey will join the press as marketing and sales director. Casey will manage marketing efforts and sales initiatives for all Coffee House titles, effective July 2.

Casey comes to Coffee House Press from Sarabande Books, where she has been director of marketing and development since 2009. She is leaving the Louisville, Ky. press on June 15 to assume her responsibilities in Minneapolis.

Casey brings fifteen years of publishing experience to her new position. Prior to Sarabande Books, she spent two years at Red Hen Press as a publicist, and has also held positions in acquisitions, research, and publicity at Stanford University Press, the Smithsonian Institution Press, and the University of Iowa, among others. She earned an MFA in Nonfiction from the University of Iowa, where she was the program coordinator for the Year of Arts and Humanities and the NonfictioNOW conference, and the personal assistant to Marilynne Robinson. A native of Washington, DC, she has also lived in Los Angeles, Belgium, Egypt, and Spain.

“We’re thrilled that Caroline Casey is joining Coffee House Press,” says publisher Chris Fischbach. “She has many years of experience—at a range of publishers—that will bring us the skills we need to further fuel our growth. She also brings the intelligence, drive, ingenuity, and optimism needed in a changing industry, and to a publisher looking to create a larger space for literature and books in the lives of readers and vibrant communities.”

Casey’s first official duty as incoming marketing and sales director will be representing the press in New York during the industry’s largest trade show, Book Expo America, taking place June 5 through 7. Coffee House Press will exhibit at Booth #3906, showcasing their fall 2012 lineup, including Read This! Handpicked Favorites from America’s Indie Bookstores, as well as novels from T. Geronimo Johnson, Laird Hunt, and Sam Savage.

Caroline can be reached starting July 2 at caroline@coffeehousepress.org.

Casey will replace Tricia O’Reilly, the interim marketing director who had served as the press’s publicist since 2010. She is leaving to pursue opportunities in the Pittsburgh area and can be reached at patricia.e.oreilly@gmail.com. Publicity assistant Kelsey Shanesy, who assumed publicity responsibilities earlier this year, rounds out the marketing and publicity department at the press. She can be reached at kelsey@coffeehousepress.org.
