A Message from Coffee House Press

Friday’s news was only the latest in a steady decline in funding for the arts. This decrease in funding opportunities has been happening for longer than 100 days. It’s been diminishing consistently for the past five years.

However, this most recent development showed us more blatantly than ever that funding for the arts is seeking to define art for the public, to narrow this definition into “safe” and “consumable” content.

Coffee House Press’s mission is antithetical to this stance. We have always and will always work to expand the definition of what literature is, what it can do, and to whom it belongs.

In these turbulent times, supporting small, independent publishers is more important than ever. Your donations help us continue to publish daring, original, and ambitious literature that defies genre and categorization.

Adventurous readers, arts enthusiasts, community builders, and risk takers—join us.
