For many LGBTQ+ authors, the Lammys were among the first awards to recognize their work, and the list of past winners includes many names still widely celebrated, including: Dorothy Allison, Alison Bechdel, Richard Blanco, Charles M. Blow, Susan Choi, Michael Cunningham, Roxane Gay, Tony Kushner, Audre Lorde,  Carmen Maria Machado, and Jacqueline Woodson, among many others. Now offering the most widely diverse selection of awards, alongside the greatest amount of special prize money in our history, the Lammys have continued to evolve as they seek to celebrate the vast range of LGBTQ+ literature.

Eighty judges took part in the review and deliberation on this year’s 1,339 submitted titles across six months, including literary critics, academics, librarians, students, poets, independent and traditionally published authors, and other avid readers representing a bright and bold spectrum of LGBTQ+ lived experiences.

Traditionally recognized by a shortlist announcement in the spring, the timeline for this year’s awards has noticeably shifted with the goal of accommodating plans for a fall gala intended for this year. Under Lambda’s new executive director, however, plans are currently under way to return to the traditional cycle of fall submissions and an in-person ceremony during Pride month 2026 for the 38th annual awards.

Finalists in the 26 categories of the Lammys as well as the winners of 7 sponsored Special Prizes will be honored in a virtual ceremony hosted by Lambda Literary’s new Executive Director J. Clapp on Saturday, October 4, 2025. The ceremony will take place at the end of “Lammys Day”: an afternoon of virtual readings and panels featuring this year’s finalists and their works. Tickets to the event go on sale August 4th.
