Poetry by Maureen Owen

April 1, 2006 • 7 x 9 • 118 pages • 978-1-56689-184-4

Owen’s perceptive reports on the business of living resonate with humor, energy, and wisdom.

From the poet’s birthplace in Graceville, Minnesota to California horse tracks, from New York apartments and the Connecticut countryside to the Colorado mountains, Owen’s perceptive reports on the business of living resonate with humor, energy, and wisdom. Full of news and gossip, bulletins on science and art, memories of love and loss, these poems are superb collages of the myriad erosions that strengthen and shape our lives.

About the Author

Born in Graceville, Minnesota, Maureen Owen grew up training horses and traveling the Racing Circuit. She is editor of Telephone Books and author of ten poetry collections, including American Rush, an L.A. Times Book Prize finalist, and AE (Amelia Earhart), a recipient of the American Book Award. Formerly a co-director of the Poetry Project, she now lives in Denver and teaches at Naropa University.

Reviews

“In Erosion’s Pull, Maureen Owen
epitomizes quantum poetics
or
being in 67 places at one time
or
The Atomizer” —Bernadette Mayer

“In Maureen Owen’s perfectly titled Erosion’s Pull, words and lines map, unmap, and revamp our everyday postcontemporary geographies: ironies and ambiguities, surrealistic conundrums, kaleidoscopic comedies, puzzlements, certain and uncertain loves and losses.” —Susan Howe
