Coffee House Press is thrilled to announce our inaugural sessions of The Writer's Studio @ Coffee House Press!
These classes are open to individuals of all backgrounds, including those who are exploring creative writing for the first time, as well as aspiring writers who want to prepare work for publication. Each class is led by an accomplished local writer, author, and/or professor and capped at 10 participants to ensure an intimate workshop environment.
Policy Information
- Attendance is expected each week, although we understand things happen. Please do your best to attend each week as these are small workshops and participation is valuable for everyone, as well as maintaining an intimate workshop environment. If a participant misses a class they will not be able to make it up later.
- Classes are held in person and may not be joined virtually.
- If a session is cancelled due to inclement weather or due to an instructor illness, the class will extend one week.
- You must be at least 20 years of age to register.
- Course registration is only available online through the Coffee House Press website. Registration by phone is not an option.
- Courses will have a minimum of 6 students and are capped at 10 students.
- Courses may include short in-class writing exercises and outside reading assignments. Participants are expected to read and write comments about each other’s written pieces in addition to time spent on one’s own writing. Prior creative writing experience is not needed unless otherwise specified.
- Courses aim to create an inclusive environment in which participants from all walks of life feel supported and encouraged in their writing endeavors. All participants will be expected to avoid offensive language when interacting with each other and the instructor, whether it be in verbal or written communication. Participants who use language that is deemed offensive, racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, etc. will be removed from the class at the discretion of the instructor and will not be provided a refund if the course has already begun.
- Courses will offer participants a nurturing environment conducive to developing writing skills. The success of the course is in part dependent on the mutual support of the participants.
